Installation Tutorials

Follow these steps to install Interview Genie and handle initial setup requirements.

Windows Installation

  1. Download the Interview Genie setup file (`.exe`) from the Download Section.
  2. Locate the downloaded file (usually in your 'Downloads' folder) and double-click it to run the installer.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions provided by the installer.
Handling Security Warnings (Windows Defender SmartScreen):

Since Interview Genie is not yet signed with a Microsoft distribution certificate, Windows Defender SmartScreen might display a warning preventing the app from running.

  • When the blue "Windows protected your PC" screen appears, click on More info.
  • After clicking "More info", a new button labeled Run anyway will appear. Click this button to proceed with the installation.

This warning appears because the application is new and hasn't established a reputation with Microsoft. Granting permission allows the installation to complete.

  1. Once installed, you can launch Interview Genie from your Start Menu or Desktop shortcut.
  2. For Voice Mode, ensure you have also installed the Chrome Extension.

macOS Installation

  1. Download the Interview Genie disk image file (`.dmg`) from the Download Section.
  2. Locate the downloaded `.dmg` file (usually in your 'Downloads' folder) and double-click it to open it.
  3. A window will appear showing the Interview Genie application icon and usually a shortcut to your 'Applications' folder. Drag the Interview Genie icon into the Applications folder.
  4. You can now eject the disk image by right-clicking it in Finder and selecting "Eject".
Handling "Unidentified Developer" Warning:

Because Interview Genie is not yet notarized by Apple, macOS Gatekeeper will likely block the application the first time you try to open it, showing a message that it "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified".

  • To bypass this, open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions).
  • Go to Privacy & Security.
  • Scroll down to the "Security" section. You should see a message saying "Interview Genie was blocked from use because it is not from an identified developer."
  • Click the Open Anyway button next to this message. You might need to enter your administrator password.

You only need to do this the first time you run the application.

Granting Screen Recording Permission:

The first time you use the Screenshot feature (Ctrl+Shift+S), macOS will prompt you to grant Screen Recording permission to Interview Genie.

  • A system dialog will appear asking for permission. Click Open System Settings.
  • This will take you to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.
  • Find Interview Genie in the list and toggle the switch next to it to the 'on' position. You may need to unlock the settings with your password.
  • The application might need to restart to apply the changes.

This permission is necessary for the screenshot functionality to capture your screen content.

  1. Once permissions are handled, you can launch Interview Genie from your Applications folder.
  2. For Voice Mode, ensure you have also installed the Chrome Extension.
